In 2012 it will be 100 years since Electrolux presented its first Lux1 vacuum cleaner. Since then many improvements have been made, leading to the creation of leading models – the Green Range line and the UltraOne vacuum cleaner. Electrolux “introducing a vacuum cleaner under the thatch” has revolutionized home cleaning.
The few vacuum cleaners that could be found in homes at the beginning of the twentieth century were huge, unwieldy and very heavy appliances. At that time, the founder of the company Electrolux, brilliant salesman Axel Wenner-Gren saw at the shop window in Vienna American vacuum cleaner. He immediately realized the potential of such a device, provided that it would be smaller, better and cheaper. In 1912 he managed to realize his vision. This was the Lux1 vacuum cleaner (Electrolux was founded in Sweden 7 years later in 1919), weighing 14 kilograms.
Lux1 has quickly become a huge success. He was used in houses and institutions of various types in the Swedish Royal Palace. Nine years later, in 1921, Wenner-Gren surprised everyone with a new solution – he put the vacuum cleaner on his side and mounted skids such as sleds. This makes the vacuum cleaner more mobile and easier to handle. Model V, because it was named a new vacuum cleaner, also became a great success.
From the Luxomatic to the most modern models
Only in the 1960s did the Luxomatic model appear, the first in which the skids were replaced with something that now appears to be a natural part of any vacuum cleaner – wheels. Luxomatic was also the first vacuum cleaner with an automatic rewinding cable, bag filling indicator, and paper bags closing when throwing.
In the 21st century, Electrolux presented two groundbreaking inventions that were a response to the observed trends – the automatic robotic vacuum cleaner for those who do not have time to clean and wireless vacuum cleaners for quick cleaning. In 2001 an automatic vacuum cleaner was created – Trilobite, and in 2004 – an elegant, vacuum cleaner Ergorapido.
Today, Electrolux is focused on creating eco-friendly, energy-saving products such as UltraOne Green. This device uses 50% less energy than a standard vacuum cleaner and is 70% recycled. UltraOne Green is one of several Green models available for the production of recycled plastic.
Over the past 100 years, Electrolux has created some of the most popular and innovative models of vacuum cleaners:
1912 – Lux 1 is created, smaller, lighter and more efficient vacuum cleaner
1921 – a vacuum cleaner on the model V was introduced. This was the first vacuum cleaner that really deserved the name of a household vacuum cleaner. It was adapted to work comfortably at home and became the starting point for all subsequent changes and improvements.
1964 – Luxomatic appears, the first generation vacuum cleaner that has a rewinding cable, a self-closing paper dust bag, and a bag filled indicator.
2001 – Trilobite is the first mass-produced automatic vacuum cleaner. The Trilobite, a wheel-shaped vacuum cleaner, was 13 centimeters in height and 35 centimeters in diameter and made it possible to clean the home almost without human intervention.
2004 – Ergorapido 2 in 1 vacuum cleaner is created. This was the first vacuum cleaner in a new category of beautifully designed column vacuums that can be left in a visible place and always available at hand for quick cleaning.
